I was born in Belgrade, Serbia, in February 1983.
I moved to Vienna in 2008 to improve my education.
I work and express myself mostly as a photographer, even though i have a graduate degree in graphic design. So far, I produced some nice pictures, I guess, and mostly for fun.
I did it with my beautiful and creative friends and it will always be the ultimate pleasure.
Another several times i did commissioned work for more precised purposes.
It opened new horizon for more structured approach and more controlled results, that i am finding challenging at the moment.

Ich wurde in Belgrad, Serbien, im Februar 1983 geboren. 2008 zog ich wegen meinem Studium nach Wien. Ich begreife mich hauptsächlich als Fotografin, auch wenn ich Grafikdesign studiert habe. Ich habe bereits ganz nette Bilder gemacht, die vorwiegend zum Spaß entstanden. Zusammen mit meinen hübschen und kreativen Freunden habe ich diese Bilder realisiert. Das ist immer eine große Freude für mich. Sonst nehme ich auch Auftragsarbeiten an. Dies erweiterte meinen Horizont und ermöglichte mir strukturierter und kontrollierter zu arbeiten. Das finde ich momentan sehr herausfordernd.

J'ai déménagé à Viennes en 2008 pour suivre des études.

Je travaille et m'exprime essentiellement en tant que photographe bien que j'ai un diplôme de design graphique. Jusqu'ici, j'ai capturé quelques jolis clichés, je pense,  et la plupart du temps par plaisir de le faire. Je les ai pris grâce à mes amis, qui sont beaux et pleins d'imagination et je pense que cela restera toujours mon ultime bonheur. J'ai aussi répondu à des commandes en d'autres occasions. Cela a ouvert des horizons pour une approche plus structurée et des résultats plus maîtrisés, et c'est ce à quoi j'aspire en ce moment.

DE Nach einer Fotografie-Ausbildung in den Vereinigten Staaten, verfolgte ich meine fotografische Reise in Straßburg hauptsächlich analog weiter. Mit den Hauptthemen Porträt und Akt, repräsentiere ich den Körper in seinen verschiedensten Formen: Körper in Bewegung, Körper im Schlaf, bemalte Köper, verstörte Körper, geblendet, Körper im ständigen Spiel mit allen Lichtquellen, die ihm zur Verfügung stehen...

Zunächst als Studiofotografin, führte meine Forschungen mich dazu den Außenbereich am Rande der Stadt zu erkunden. Dort wo sich die natürliche Welt und die durch Menschen veränderte industrielle, städtische Welt kreuzen, endet die Natur manchmal - oder immer - sich wieder davon erholt. Auf meinem Weg verfolge ich Orte, wo der Mensch seine Spur noch nicht hinterlassen hat. Feindliche oder einfach nur resistente Orte?

Nachdem ich lange im 24x36-Format gearbeitet habe, erweiterte ich meine Mittel zur Erkundung, ohne zu zögern, auch alte und rudimentäre Techniken zu erwägen, wie die Lochkamera, das Fotogramm oder die Sofortbildkamera, auf der Suche nach einem einzigartigen Bild.

Meine Untegründe reichen von Baryt-Papier zu positiven Transparenten über Aquarellpapier oder andere Materialien, die ich nach und nach bei meinen Recherchen entdecke.

 

FR Après une formation à la photographie aux Etats-Unis, je poursuis à Strasbourg, un parcours photographique essentiellement argentique. Avec pour thèmes principaux le portrait et le nu, je représente le corps sous ses formes les plus diverses ; corps en mouvement, corps en sommeil, corps peint, corps troublant, éblouissant, corps en jeu perpétuel avec toutes les sources lumineuses qui s'offrent à lui..

Photographe de studio tout d'abord, mes recherches me poussent à explorer les espaces extérieurs, en périphérie des villes, là où se croisent le monde naturel et le monde altéré par l'homme, industriel, urbain, où la nature finit parfois - ou toujours - par reprendre le dessus.

Et de poursuivre mon chemin vers des lieux où l'homme n'a encore su imposer sa trace. Lieux hostiles ou simplement résistants ?

Après avoir longtemps travaillé au format 24x36, je diversifie mes outils d'exploration, n'hésitant pas à reconsidérer des techniques anciennes, voire rudimentaires, le sténopé, le rayogramme ou l'instantané, à la recherche d'une image unique.    

Mes supports varient également, allant du papier baryté au positif transparent, en passant par le papier aquarelle ou d'autres matières que je découvre au fur et à mesure de mes recherches.

After the studies in photography in the United States, I now carry on my photographic journey mainly based on silver films in Strasbourg. Portrait and nude are my two major concerns,  It depicts the body in its most diverse forms: in movement or asleep, sometimes painted bodys? I like to show the body in a mesmerizing glow, in a perpetual game of hide and seek with all light sources.

Studio photographer pre-eminently, my research leads me to explore outdoor spaces, like the outskirts of cities, where nature joins the world that have been altered by human mankind. An industrial urban world where nature almost ends to regain the upper hand. And I intend to pursue my quest towards unclimbed peaks. Shall we call them hostile places or resilient?

Having worked in the 24x36 format for a long period, I diversified my exploration tools, not hesitating to reconsider ancient or even rudimentary techniques: the pinhole, the rayogramme or the snapshot looking for a single image.

My supports also vary, ranging from transparent to positive baryta paper, through the watercolor paper or other material that I discovered along my quest.

EN I am a Polish born, Canadian raised Photographer. Photography for me is like a portal which informs me about the world and my existence with in it. Professionally, I mainly specialise in fashion editorial and portraiture. I have worked for all sorts of publications, including Vogue Australia, Russh Magazine, Nylon USA, Oyster, Crash magazine and many more. My journey as a photographer started in year 10 art class and I haven't looked back since. I my career began inLondonthen I moved on toNew Yorkand then Sydney Australia. I have now come full circle and once again I am living in the East End of London. 

 

DE Ich bin ein in Polen geborener, in Kanada groß gewordener Fotograf. Fotografie ist für mich ein Portal, dass mich über die Welt und mein Dasein darin informiert. Beruflich habe ich mich hauptsächlich auf Mode- und Portraitfotos spezialisiert. Ich habe für alle Arten von Magazinen gearbeitet, unter anderem für Vogue Australia, Russh Magazin, Nylon USA, Oyster, Crash Magazin und viele mehr. Meine Reise als Fotograf startete mit zehn Jahren in der Kunst-Klasse. In London begann meine Karriere, danach zog es mich nach New York, anschließend nach Sydney. Der Kreis hat sich nun geschlossen, denn ich lebe erneut in London, East End.

La photographie, pour moi, c'est un portail qui m'informe sur le monde mais aussi  sur moi-même.Professionnellement, je me suis principalement spécialisé dans l'éditorial de  mode et de portraits. J'ai travaillé pour plusieurs sortes de publications, notamment Vogue Australie, Russh magazine, Nylon USA, Oyster, Crash magazine et plein d'autres. Mon voyage en tant que photographe a commencé il y a dix ans en cours d'art et je n'ai jamais regardé en arrière depuis. Ma carrière a commencé à Londres, j'ai, par la suite, emménagé à New-York, puis à Sydney en Australie. J'ai maintenant, fait un cercle complet, et j'habite à nouveau dans le quartier East End à Londres.

FR Je m'appelle Elena Chernyak. J'ai 21 ans. J'habite à Moscou. J'ai commencé ma carrière de photographe il y a trois ans quand j'habitais à Saint-Pétersbourg. Mon inspiration principale est mon lieu de naissance - Novokuznetsk dans le sud de la Sibérie - où j?ai aussi passé ma jeunesse. A chaque visite chez ma famille, je réalise un projet photographique en lien avec mes mémoires ou impressions tirées de ces lieux. Mes sujets sont donc des gens que je connais depuis des années : je trouve plus intéressant de photographier des choses et personnes que je connais déjà. En résumé, je peux dire que je travaille sur un projet au long cours sur la Sibérie, une exploration de ma région d'origine basée sur mes réflexions personnelles.

Ich kann also sagen, dass ich an einem Langzeitprojekt über Sibirien arbeite, einer Exploration meiner Heimatregion, basierend auf persönlichen Überlegungen.

EN My name is Elena Chernyak. Now I am 21. Currently I am based in Moscow. I began my photography path about three years ago while living in St.Petersburg. Generally my main subjects and inspirations are my native places in South Siberia (Novokuznetsk) where I was born and spent my child and school years. Every time I go there for visiting my family I do some photo project connected with my memories or impressions of those places. Usually my heroes are people whom I know already for years. Slava Mogutin

Der in Sibirien gebohrene Künstler und Schriftsteller Slava Mogutin wurde im Alter von 21 Jahren für seine non-konforme Art zu schreiben und seinen politischen Aktivismus aus Russland ausgewiesen. 1995 wurde ihm in de USA auf Initiative von Amnesty International und der PEN Foundation politisches Asyl gewährt. Mogutin ist Autor zweier Monographien mit Photographien, Lost Boys und NYC Go-Go, sowie sieben Büchern mit seinen Schriften auf Russisch. Er gewann unter Anderem den renommierten Andrei Bely Prize für Poesie (2000). Im vergangenen Jahrzehnt wurden Mogutins Photographien, sowie seine Arbeiten im Bereich Video und Multimedia in der ganzen Welt ausgestellt.
