DE CAVE ist ein geheimer Ort in Berlin. Hier trifft sich ein Mal in der Woche eine Gruppe von Street-Art-Künstlern, um sich in einem geschützten Rahmen ohne störende Polizei-Interventionen auszutauschen und gemeinsam an Projekten zu arbeiten. Das Hauptziel von Cave ist es Kreativität und Experimentierfreudigkeit zu fördern! Den Künstlern wird hier die Chance gegeben ihre Ideen miteinander zu teilen, zusammenzuarbeiten und neue Kontakte zu knüpfen. Die Arbeiten, die hier produziert werden, richten sich nicht an ein Publikum, da kein anderer Zugang zu diesem Ort hat. Es geht darum, dass die Künstler neue Dinge ausprobieren können und diesen Ort als ein Experimentierspielplatz für zukünftige Projekte nutzen können.

 

EN The CAVE is a secret space in Berlin where a group of street artist meet once a week to work and collaborate in a safe and encouraging environment without worry of police or interference. The main goal of the CAVE is to promote creativity and experimentation while giving the artists involved a chance to share ideas, collaborate, and make new contacts. The works created here have no audience since nobody else has access to this space and therefore nobody will see the work. The artists involved therefore are encouraged to try new things and use this space as a testing ground for future projects or collaborations.

 

FR La CAVE est un lieu secret à Berlin où une bande street-artists se réunit une fois par semaine pour travailler ensemble dans un environnement sûr et chaleureux où la police n'interfère pas. La mission de la CAVE est de promouvoir la créativité tout en offrant aux artistes impliqués la possibilité de partager leurs idées, de collaborer, de rencontrer de nouvelles personnes. Les travaux qui y sont produits n'ont pas de public puisque personne n'a accès à cet espace. Les artistes sont donc encouragés à expérimenter de nouvelles choses et à utiliser cet espace comme un laboratoire pour de futurs projets.

Der Berliner Künstler IRGH ist seit 2006 mit seiner Crew WURSTBANDE auf den Straßen Berlins unterwegs. Begonnen hat die Crew damit Sticker und Poster zu verkleben, später wurde dann direkt mit Pinsel und Dosen gemalt. Beim Malen auf der Straße und in Hinterhöfen schätzt er die Möglichkeit mit anderen Künstlern zu kooperieren und mit der Stadt und dem Stadtbild selbst zu spielen.

L'artiste IRGH et sa bande répondant au doux nom de Wurst (Saucisse en allemand) ont fait de Berlin leur terrain de jeu. Le crew a commencé en dispersant autocollants et affiches sur les murs de la ville puis s'est peu à peu emparé de pinceaux et de bombes de peinture. Lors de ses sessions de création, dans les rues ou en classe, IRGH se plait à collaborer avec d'autres artistes et s'amuse avec l'aménagement urbain.

The street artist IRGH and his crew ironically called Wurst (Sausage) have turned Berlin into their favorite playground. They began spreading stickers and posters on the walls and gradually started using brushes and spray cans. IRGH likes to work and collaborate with other artists and play with urban amenities.

My face is based on lines and has a fat nose. I can be with or without body: Homie, Aztec, Frida Kahlo, Funkeiro, Mermaid, Indio, Gypsy, Geisha, Eski, Heidi, Maharachi, Pharao and much more. With very long arms and legs often folded to complicated knots. Usually I'm alive and sometimes dead. "Dia de los Muertos" inspired, with swirly bones, or just a huge skull by itself, broadly smiling from both sides of the face. Sometimes I'm a tiger, peacock, owl, kolibri, monkey, fox, fish, chameleon or a beaver. Reduced graphic shapes, who add themselves up to animals. Sometimes I'm just an organic heart, locked or unlocked. I'm four letters.
I'm TIKA.
After a cold, grey Swiss winter full of lobstar bombings, the first face was drawn on a bus ride to work in Mexico DF, big nosed and without body. It evolved from the idea that every line in a face closes to a shape. These lines build a grid pattern as it is often used in graphic design. The faces started to spread as hand-drawn stickers holding up signs with words or sentences over Chilangotown and then hopped over to Zurich, Berlin, New York and many other cities. On a remarkable barbeque, the day we bound together as TGS Kru, the heads started to spread, drawn with tagmarkers over Zeecity's letterboxes, walls and the "fridgeyard" (a street corner where people dispose of old fridges, computers, washing machines, etc.) After a bad angina with antibiotic treatment (in German: AntibioTIKA), the faces got their name: "TIKA"
With open eyes you can meet TIKA in the streets of various cities over the world. Painted in black and white, sometimes brown or yellow, fluorescent red, gold, mint, lilac or what ever colours emerge when the top layer of a surface gets scratched away. Painted and sprayed on walls, doors, wood boards, as well as on floors, ceilings and around corners. Always interacting with the space and communicating with the architecture, integrated with lots of textures and materials found on the street. Also drawn on thin paper, cut out and collaged with other materials, pasted carefully on the place where it's made for. Quickly but precisely drawn with a marker, or simply as a sTIKA.
TIKAs want to remind of the history that sticks to places. The stories that have lived in buildings and houses standing there before the grey cubes were built. They refer to the stiffness of life when you're caught in the tight grid of society. The skeletons with their broad smile stand for what the myth of death often does to reputation. The animals will survive humanity. Life is just a break of being pure energy.

(DE) Geboren in Kent, England 1974. 1996 schloss er sein Studium in Malerei an der St. Martins School ab. Seit 2000 lebt und arbeitet Boxi in Berlin, Deutschland.

Boxi arbeitet mit von Hand zugeschnittenen Multi-Layer-Stencils in Lebensgröße, welche er in Galerien aber auch an Straßenwänden ausstellt. Häufig ist es die Stelle, an der seine Installation angebracht ist, welche die künstlerische Aktion definiert oder vervollständigt. Auf diese Weise integriert sich die Arbeit in ihre Umwelt und wird mit ihr eins. Diese Verschmelzung hat zur Folge, dass sich die materiellen Grenzen langsam auflösen und die Wahrnehmung der Arbeit beeinflussen.

Boxi crée des pochoirs multicouches grandeurs nature de mains coupées, qu'il expose dans des galeries et sur les murs de la ville. C'est souvent leur emplacement au sein de l'installation ou du paysage urbain qui complète et définis leurs actions, permettant au travail d'interagir avec l'environnement. C'est dans cette collaboration que les limites matérielles du travail se trouvent effacées, affectant ainsi la perception de l'image.

(EN) Born 1974 in Kent, England. He completed his studies at the London St. Martins school of art with a BA Fine Arts degree in painting in 1996. Boxi has lived and worked in Berlin, Germany since 2000.

Boxi creates hand cut multi layered life size stencils that he exhibits in galleries and on street walls. It is often their placement within the installation or urban landscape that completes and defines their action, enabling the work to interact with the space. It is within this collaboration that the material boundaries of the work are dissolved, affecting the perception of the image.

Gemeinsame Interessen wie die Liebe für Papier, die Begeisterung für zufällige Schönheit im Alltag, Kollaborationen mit Künstlerfreunden und vor allem die Arbeit im urbanen Raum bilden die Grundlage für ihre gemeinsames Schaffen. Bevorzugte Techniken sind Siebdruck und Collage.
